Preparation for Friday!

On Friday your task will be to write and present a news reel report on Moving up to High School from Primary School. Once we have written the reports we will film you reading them in true News Reporter style. After that, we will post the finished product on the blog for all of your friends in Year 6 to watch. If you have any props that you can bring such as geek glasses, a smart shirt and tie, please bring them along.

You already have your notes from the secret tasks that you have completed. Now you can complete some research in preparation. Use the links on this blog to help you and maybe watch some news reports on the News round website.

Two pupils (who will remain anonymous) have been selected and have accepted their mission. They have received their packs and are working hard as we speak! They will post their code names soon and will write their findings for you all to read.

TASK ONE - READ, RESEARCH AND CREATE YOUR QUESTIONS

Read the information on the following link about pupils' feelings when moving from Primary school to High School. How do you feel about it? Start to make notes using the writing skeletons shown below. You may find similar articles by searching the internet yourself. Try the Newsround link on the right hand side of this blog too!

(Instead of writing 'facts' here, you could write 'questions' and 'responses.')

 

Once you have read the article, consider the types of questions you would like to ask different pupils within your school, before attending the Transition day (and without letting them know that you're on a 'Mission'). Make notes of the responses and keep them in a secret place.

 

Then consider the questions you will ask pupils when you are in the Transition Day at Hawthorn High School. Ask them about the activities and how they make them feel. Have they made any new friends? Do they feel better about going to High School now? Did the Llangrannog trip help their anxieties? How?

 

Remember to write open ended questions to get as much information as you can.
